One of the reasons why a lot of people don’t consider starting a side hustle is because of lack of time. We actually have more time than we think. However, starting a side hustle requires a high level of discipline. This means you have to sacrifice in some cases to carve out time.

Most of the side hustles I am going to discuss below require time commitments and some of them will not earn you money immediately. Thinking long-term is very important. If you can make a long-term commitment, you will be surprised how income from your side hustle can overtake what you earn from your day job.

Let me use myself as an example in terms of finding time for your side hustle. I have a full-time job, I am married with two boys. Yet, I am still able to commit to my side hustles. How have I been able to do it?

Think about the gaps you have during the day and use the time wisely. For example, after I return from my day job, I have few free hours in the evening. I commit this time to my side hustle. As well, waking up early can be a game-changer for you.

Before the kids get up in the morning, I am already up. I have been able to carve out a few hours for my side hustles. You have more time than you think. You will need to sacrifice some activities that do not add any significant value to you. One of those activities is entertainment. A human being can survive without entertainment. 

I am not saying completely cut off entertainment, you can reduce it a bit.

I used to watch most live football matches on tv, nowadays because of my side hustle, I only choose a few games to watch and relax. It’s not that I’ve given up my love for football completely but I simply reduced the number of games I watch.

Selling online

There are lots of platforms available where you can sell physical and digital products online. The likes of Amazon, eBay, and Etsy have opened up their platforms for anyone interested to register and start selling their products.

The great part of selling online is that you have access to thousands if not millions of customers. Selling online has a lot of advantages over brick-and-mortar physical shops.

There is no cap on how much you can make by selling online. It just depends on how much work you can put in. You can definitely make between £1,000 and £5000 monthly if you get your strategies right.

For example, my day job is data analysis, I am an advanced Microsoft Excel user. Also, I am highly proficient in using SQL servers and very good at writing SQL scripts. If I have spare time, I can register on a freelancing website where people who need work done in my area of expertise can find me. When I do the work I will get paid.

It’s a great way to engage your spare time after work.

Everyone is good at something that someone else needs help for. What skills do you have? Are you good at writing, you can write for people and get paid. Are you good at art? Maybe your voice is great, you can offer voice-over services.

It’s not only about something you are passionate about. Earning money is about solving a problem. If there are problems you thinking people will need solving, you can acquire skills in that particular area and help people solve the problem.
